Dolphin Award for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the College by a Member of the Non-Teaching Instructional Staff in the HEO Title:
Carol Brower, Director of Student Life, the Division of Student Affairs
You came to the College as an Adjunct for the Counseling Center in 1988, and you’ve been in your current role since the year 2000. Perhaps the most glowing tribute to your unlimited commitment to our students and our College was found in the letter from all of your staff members in which they referred to you as “dedicated, compassionate, inspiring, dependable, and friend,” and “a supportive supervisor who appreciates the time and commitment each of us provides to our students, and our programs and initiatives.” You oversee an office that is responsible for more than 300 events and programs per year, and provides the necessary structure to increase our students’ understanding of diversity, civility, leadership, and service to others—ideals that you elevate and promote by your shining example. Your dedication to our students goes above and beyond, as you were in the forefront to provide comfort and assistance in the aftermath of 9/11 and Superstorm Sandy, tirelessly providing an amazing amount of time and effort to ensure that all who were affected were cared for. You have also played a key role in important and successful student events, such as the Student Leadership Conference, CSI’s Got Talent, and the Relay for Life, and you serve as an advisor to Student Government, and a number of major College committees for many initiatives, such as the First-Year Experience, Housing and Residential Life, the Petrie Grant, and Commencement.
Your devotion to the College and Staten Island communities is an inspiration to us all.
