Dolphin Award for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the College by a Member of the Non-Instructional Staff in CLT and OIT Specialists Title: Linda John, Director of Computing in the Office of Technology Systems
You came to the College of Staten Island in 1990 as a College Assistant in the Department of Computer Science while you also pursued a Master’s degree in Computer Science here. You have worked your way up from your original position to CLT, through the HEO series to become a full HEO. Your AVP describes you as “an asset not only to the Office of Technology Systems, but to the entire College community.” You have a long list of duties. You are responsible for about 1,700 student computers, which are critical to learning at CSI. In addition, you provide support for conferences and professional development workshops, you supervise the support of our almost 200 Smart classrooms, you have provided assistance in the establishment of the new Trading Room in Building 3N, you assist our Mac users, and you have played a major role in securing a 3D printer and scanner for the College. You have also worked to ensure that there are computers in convenient places throughout campus to serve our students, and you helped to implement NJVID, a state-of-the art digital media repository service for streaming and preserving academic and research media. If this weren’t enough, you have served on a number of committees, including Middle States Working Group 6, you serve as an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Mathematics and the Office of Academic Support, and you have also taught for the Computer Science Department. Through it all, you have maintained a can-do attitude, working long hours to guarantee that everyone’s needs are met.
